Mat Pilates is performed on the floor using a mat and your own body weight for resistance. It focuses on controlled, precise movements to build core strength, improve posture, and enhance overall body awareness. Because it requires minimal equipment, it is accessible, easy to practice almost anywhere, and a great way to learn the fundamental Pilates principles.
Reformer Pilates uses a specialized machine with a sliding carriage, springs, and straps to provide adjustable resistance and support. This setup allows a wider variety of exercises, helping target specific muscles, guide alignment, and adjust the level of challenge. Reformer work can be particularly helpful for injury rehabilitation, as the springs and carriage can reduce joint load while still building strength, stability, and mobility in a very controlled way.
