-
Wear clothing that makes you feel comfortable and that you can move around in. A comfortable shirt and pants/shorts are your best bet. Wear socks; sticky (grip) socks are recommended, but not necessary.
Please, no shoes in the studio.

Private Sessions -
Yes, we have a bathroom/changing space available for you to use before and after class.

Please arrive about 10 minutes before class to check in, get oriented, and set up your Reformer or mat. We’re not able to accommodate late arrivals, as this disrupts the class and means you’ll miss the warm‑up.

Yes. We regularly see students, staff, and faculty from McMaster, as well as clients from Westdale, the mountain, Dundas, Ancaster and across Hamilton who are looking for small‑group Pilates classes and private sessions close to home.
-
We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle so you can hydrate before and after class, and during if needed. Water is provided.
-
For safety, hygiene, and comfort, grip socks are preferred for all Pilates sessions at our Westdale Village studio. No shoes are worn in the studio or on the equipment. You can purchase grip socks at our studio before the class.
-
Mat Pilates is performed on the floor using a mat and your own body weight for resistance. It focuses on controlled, precise movements to build core strength, improve posture, and enhance overall body awareness. Because it requires minimal equipment, it is accessible, easy to practice almost anywhere, and a great way to learn the fundamental Pilates principles.
Reformer Pilates uses a specialized machine with a sliding carriage, springs, and straps to provide adjustable resistance and support. This setup allows a wider variety of exercises, helping target specific muscles, guide alignment, and adjust the level of challenge. Reformer work can be particularly helpful for injury rehabilitation, as the springs and carriage can reduce joint load while still building strength, stability, and mobility in a very controlled way.

We strongly recommend getting clearance from your OB, midwife, or primary care provider before starting or changing your exercise routine in pregnancy. -
We strongly recommend getting clearance from your OB, midwife, or primary care provider before starting or changing your exercise routine in pregnancy—especially if your pregnancy is high‑risk or you’ve been given specific restrictions.
-
Most people return between 6–12 weeks postpartum, once they’ve been cleared by their healthcare provider, but everybody and every birth is different. We suggest easing in with gentle, postpartum‑focused movement, private sessions, or beginner‑friendly classes before progressing to more challenging formats.
-
Yes. Many of our instructors are experienced in working with postpartum clients navigating diastasis recti, pelvic floor changes, and core rebuilding. Private sessions are a great way to get individualized support and a plan that meets you where you are.
Injury rehab & chronic pain
-
If you’re recovering from surgery, dealing with acute pain, or have a more complex history, starting with one or more private sessions at our Westdale Village studio is ideal. This lets us learn your story, adapt exercises to your needs, and design a program that supports your rehab goals before you join group classes.
-
Yes. Many clients come to Westdale Pilates in Hamilton to support injury recovery, chronic pain, or long‑term joint health. We encourage you to email us before booking so we can recommend the safest starting point and any classes to avoid.
-
Gentle, fundamentals‑focused Reformer and certain Tower or Mat classes can be helpful, but it’s very individual. Once we know more about your diagnosis and symptoms, we can suggest options that emphasize stability, alignment, and pain‑aware movement.
-
High‑intensity, jump‑focused, or advanced classes are usually not appropriate if you’re dealing with pain, acute injury, or active rehab. When in doubt, reach out so we can guide you toward safer options—or recommend a private session first.
